I agree on principal, but if overpaying a couple hundred thousand for Condra's deal was the Ligntnings sole bad contract they have gotten off lucky. I'm not convinced it stood in the way of a new deal for Marchessault; I think Tampa was just cutting ties on an asset that hadn't planned out like they had hoped (at the time.) He's a late bloomer. I don't think anyone saw it coming.

If you want to point the finger at a deal that has caused cap greif and will continue to for a few more years, it's Callahan's.

March got like 50 games in Tampa, he was great and i think he never really got the chance he deserved. Hated that they let him go, to the panthers none the less.

Carle contract was worse than Cally imo, by a hair. Cally still brings something to the table, Carle was a traffic cone for like 4 seasons before buyout.

edit: March was also only 25

Tyler Johnson worst deal unless we move him before next year. SEVEN years at $5m per year with a NTC that kicks in when we have Brayden Point and Kucherov and Vasy will need big raises? Short, cheap contracts may be bad but you rid them quickly. Johnson at 7 years has a long time to stay on.

Johnson has 8 goals 10 assists since december 1st. He will be tradeable when needed for cap relief and if he refuses then from 21/22 season he only has a 10 team non-trade list.

Its not optimal, but far from worst.

Condra's contract isn't ideal but not the worst. We can bury all but $250k in the minors and he is a world class leader for the Crunch and all 9 of their rookies. We're not strapped for cash right now, I'd pay $250k for his leadership and work ethic that is being passed along to the next level of prospects. If those prospects get have the character he has it will be worth the contract. His contract ended up being a good investment in our prospects.

Cap relief is going to be needed soon. Vasey is $3.5m for this year and two more while Kucherov is $4.8m for this year and next. Vlady also is $2m for this year only. Stralman, Point and Sergachev are both coming up in the next three years so to be stuck with Johnson for 7 years is silly. Only reason I think that is Johnson does not bring you anything Point can't or doesn't so go with the younger, cheaper option and save money to spend on difference makers.

I'm thinking he'll get traded to Seattle in two years.

From 2018 - 2021 he has a no trade clause. Since he is from there if that happens I could see that I guess.

And onto tonight's game. Bolts will win, no doubt. Holland is still stuck on stupid with many horrible long term contracts. Want to trade GM's ???
